Skoda Slavia Unveiled

The introduction of the Slavia marks the start of Skoda Auto’s next stage in the India 2.0 project. Following the successful launch of the Kushaq SUV, the brand-new saloon is the Czech carmaker’s second India-specific model. The Skoda is produced in the country, with a localisation level of 95 per cent. As the saloon is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform – an MQB variant specially adapted by Skoda Auto for India – it offers a comprehensive range of safety features and advanced infotainment systems. The power output of the TSI engines available for the Slavia is 115 PS and 150 PS respectively, and just like other Skodas, this model is characterised by an emotive design. Its name is both a tribute to the carmaker’s beginnings and a symbol of a new era in the Indian market.

Thomas Schäfer, Skoda Auto CEO, said: “With the new SLAVIA, we are igniting the next stage of our INDIA 2.0 product campaign. Following the successful launch of the KUSHAQ, we are now entering another popular segment with our brand-new saloon. The SLAVIA is perfectly tailored to the needs of our customers in India and is built with a localisation level of up to 95%. We are confident that both the KUSHAQ and the SLAVIA will allow us to leverage the full potential in this promising, growing market.”

In 1895, the founding fathers Václav Laurin and Václav Klement started their business by repairing bicycles in Mladá Boleslav. Soon after, they designed their own, successfully marketing them under the brand name Slavia from 1896. The bicycles stood for reliability, affordability and inventiveness – qualities that still form Skoda’s ‘Simply Clever’ corporate philosophy today. ‘Slavia’ quickly became synonymous with quality and innovation, and the name was also adopted for the motorcycles introduced by Laurin and Klement in 1899.

The MQB-A0-IN – a variant of Volkswagen Group’s modular transverse matrix – provides the technical basis for the new models. Skoda Auto has adapted this platform specifically for the Indian market and to meet the country’s new, stricter safety and emission requirements. The majority of the development work is carried out locally – in close collaboration with colleagues based in the Czech Republic – at the technology centre in Pune, which opened in early 2019. The on-site team’s wealth of expertise and understanding of local preferences mean that Skoda can respond to changing needs quickly and in a flexible manner. Skoda Auto’s vehicle production in India has a localisation level of up to 95 per cent. The carmaker set up a new MQB production line at its Pune plant so this could be achieved. In the medium term, the models manufactured in India will also be exported to other countries.

The Slavia saloon is the second new Skoda for the India 2.0 project, following the Kushaq SUV, which was launched in the first quarter of 2021. Headed by Skoda Auto, who oversees all activities of Volkswagen Group in India, the campaign is backed by investments of one billion euros to strengthen the long-term presence of Skoda and Volkswagen on the Indian subcontinent. The aim is to reach a combined market share of 5% by 2025. The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia models will be followed by a Volkswagen saloon; a Volkswagen SUV has already been launched.

Oliver Stefani, Head of Skoda Design, said: “The new SLAVIA is a true ŠKODA, characterised by our emotive design language. Alongside the powerful and striking KUSHAQ, our brand-new saloon brings traditional elegance to India’s A0 segment. Its crystalline elements are inspired by the brand’s Czech heritage while distinctive visual highlights, such as the chrome applications on the door handles, add a unique touch to its appearance.”

The Skoda Slavia is a classic saloon in the popular A0 segment in India. At a length of 4,541 mm, it is ideal for the city driving. Its Skoda-typical generous amounts of space and boot capacity of 521 litre make it fit for the daily requirements of a family. Its width of 1,752 mm and wheelbase of 2,651 mm also contribute to the feeling of spaciousness, while the vehicle height is 1,487 mm. Its long wheelbase, balanced proportions and coupé-like silhouette add to the Slavia’s elegant appearance. There is a choice of three trim levels – Active, Ambition and Style – for the new saloon.

The Slavia’s emotive design language with sharp lines, clear surfaces and crystalline structures builds on that of the Octavia and Superb – two Skoda saloons which are well established in India. The wide, hexagonal Skoda grille with a chrome surround and vertical black slats is upright and extends to the sides of the slim headlights. The lower air inlet runs across nearly the vehicle’s entire width and merges with black, C-shaped applications on both sides. The roofline slopes gently and seamlessly towards the rear. The tailgate bears ‘Skoda’ in block lettering in the centre. The wide tailgate and low loading sill mean that the large boot is easy to use. The rear bumper accentuates the Slavia’s width and features a thin black insert that runs from one reflector to the other in the Active and Ambition trim levels. In the higher specifications, chrome applications create visual highlights, for example on the door handles and on the front apron (Slavia Ambition), or below the side windows and on the rear apron (Slavia Style). The top-end variant Style also comes with an electric sliding glass roof. From the Ambition trim upwards, a model-specific badge with crystalline and chrome-plated details and Skoda lettering on the front wings makes for an additional visual highlight.

The entry-level headlights come with halogen lamps for low beam and high beam, while the daytime running lights make use of LED technology. In the top-end specification, a hexagonal LED module produces the low beam and high beam, while the daytime running lights are provided by a striking, sharply defined L-shaped LED strip. There is also a choice of two variants for the rear lights which are split in two. Even the entry-level specification features LED tail lights and brake lights, forming the Skoda-typical C-shaped light cluster. The Slavia Ambition and Style also boast an LED tail light module on the tailgate.

The new saloon’s wheels depend on the trim level. The Slavia Active features 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps. The higher-end trim levels, Ambition and Style, come with alloy wheels as standard: silver-coloured 16-inch alloys for the Slavia Ambition, and painted and brushed two-tone 16-inch alloys for the top-specification Slavia Style. There is a choice of five body colours for the brand-new saloon. In addition to Tornado Red, the colour options include metallic Crystal Blue – Skoda is the only Volkswagen Group brand in India to offer this paintwork. Both the Slavia and the Kushaq are also available in Candy White, metallic Reflex Silver and metallic Carbon Steel.

The new Slavia’s interior is based on the latest design concept of Skoda’s European models. A free-standing infotainment screen measuring up to 10 inches takes centre stage. The circular air vents are another striking feature. From Ambition upwards, touch-control Climatronic with Air Care function comes as standard, while comfort features such as ventilated front seats upholstered in leather are available for the top-end specification Style.

The Slavia showcases the latest Skoda interior design concept. Just as with other model ranges from the Czech car manufacturer, the free-standing infotainment touchscreen measuring up to 10 inches takes centre stage. The line running underneath is inspired by the silhouette of the Skoda grille and provides a hand rest for use when operating the display. A horizontal, colour-contrasting decorative strip accentuates the width of the spacious interior and connects the circular side air vents.

Digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and a special design feature
The range-topping trim level, Style, offers a digital instrument cluster with an 8-inch colour display; the other variants come with analogue gauges. The two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, as seen in other Skoda models, is upholstered in leather from the Ambition specification upwards. Vehicles fitted with automatic transmission or DSG also boast shift paddles on the steering wheel. LED reading lights in the front and rear come as standard. From the Ambition trim upwards, the extended ambient lighting illuminates the dashboard, the storage compartment in the centre console and the door handles. The Slavia also features a special design detail on the instrument-cluster housing, showcasing the Skoda lettering strikingly embossed on both sides.

Powerful air conditioning, ventilated front seats and a recess on the dashboard
As with the Kushaq SUV, the Skoda interior designers paid particular attention to the preferences and needs of Indian customers for the new Slavia. Even the entry-level variant, Active, features powerful air conditioning, and from the Ambition trim level upwards, the Slavia boasts a touch-control Climatronic with Air Care function and air vents in the rear. The standard equipment for Style, the top-end specification, also includes ventilated leather front seats, an electric, sliding glass roof, KESSY keyless vehicle entry and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. The utility recess on the dashboard is a market-specific feature. This is where the driver can keep a lucky charm in clear view.

Both infotainment systems available for the new Skoda Slavia can be operated easily and intuitively, and entirely via the colour touchscreen measuring 7 or 10 inches. They feature SmartLink technology enabling the integration of smartphones. The Ambition and Style trim levels provide access to a plethora of MySkoda Connect mobile online services with Skoda Play Apps, which can be used to download a navigation function for the top-end infotainment system.

There is a choice of two advanced infotainment systems for the new Slavia. These allow smartphones to be paired via SmartLink technology and provide access to mobile online services. Both are operated entirely via the central, colour touchscreen, which measures 7 inches in the Active specification. This infotainment system also allows for hands-free phone calls via a Bluetooth connection and a built-in microphone. Electronic devices can be charged and data transferred via a USB-A socket. MySkoda Connect offers a Vehicle Health Report on the smartphone and remote vehicle access, allowing owners to retrieve vehicle information and driving data, including parking location. The MySkoda Connect app also provides tips for a more efficient driving style, retrieves over-the-air vehicle software updates, and notifies the owner if the Slavia is speeding or travelling outside a specified area.

The top-level infotainment system in Ambition and Style has a 10-inch colour touchscreen with functionality similar to that found in smartphones. Wireless SmartLink technology allows smartphone mirroring and access to the app store without the use of a cable. Downloads from the Skoda Play Apps allow for the range of features to be expanded, for example, by a navigation function. The coordinates are provided by a GPS tuner that has been pre-installed in the vehicle. This system also features a dual tuner, a Wi-Fi hotspot and an external microphone for hands-free phone calls (Bluetooth standard 4.0). For connecting and charging mobile devices via cable, there are two USB-C sockets in the centre console and another two in the rear from the Ambition trim level upwards; the Slavia Style comes with a Phone Box in the front, which allows smartphones to be charged inductively.

The Skoda Slavia comes with excellent active and passive safety features. Occupants are protected by up to six airbags. To ensure children also have a safe journey, the saloon comes with ISOFIX anchors and Top Tether anchor points on the rear seats. ESC is another standard feature ensuring a high level of driving safety, while the Multi-Collision Brake will safely bring the vehicle to a standstill in the event of an accident. The Slavia also offers a host of practical comfort features such as Hill-Hold Control, rain and light sensors, and cruise control. A tyre pressure monitor is another convenient feature.

With its extensive range of active and passive safety features, the new Skoda Slavia offers excellent protection for the driver and passengers. Fitted with ESC as standard, high levels of driving safety are ensured in all models. The Slavia is also equipped with XDS and XDS+. These assistance systems are part of the Electronic Differential System (EDS), which improves wheel traction. It reacts when the load on the inner wheels is reduced when cornering, and slows down the wheels under the reduced load, preventing them from spinning. Should an accident occur despite the many safety features, the Multi-Collision Brake will prevent any potential follow-on collisions by automatically and safely bringing the car to a standstill. The brake system comes with an automatic brake disc cleaning function. The Skoda Slavia can be equipped with up to six airbags. These include airbags for the driver and front passenger as standard, as well as the optional front side airbags and curtain airbags. All headrests are height-adjustable, and the centre seat in the rear is also equipped with a three-point seat belt. ISOFIX anchors and Top Tether anchor points on the rear seats, which come as standard, allow child seats to be securely fastened.

The new Slavia comes with numerous features, some of which are optional, to support the driver and increase comfort. Cruise control is part of the standard equipment from the Ambition specification upwards, while Hill-Hold Control is included in the Style trim level (for cars with automatic transmission, from Ambition). Optional extras include light and rain sensors to automatically activate the low beam or windscreen wipers as required. Rear parking sensors are fitted as standard; the higher-trim variants come with a rear-view camera. A tyre pressure monitor is a standard feature for all specifications.

Skoda offers a choice of two efficient and powerful petrol engines for the new Slavia. Both meet the country’s stringent BS6 emission standards and transfer their power to the road via a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. For the 1.0 TSI with an output of 85 kW (115 PS), a six-speed automatic transmission is optional, while the top-of-the-range 1.5 TSI delivering 110 kW (150 PS) can also be fitted with a seven-speed DSG.

The Skoda Slavia can be fitted with one of the advanced and efficient direct-injection TSI petrol engines, which offer both great performance and low fuel consumption. Even the entry-level three‑cylinder 1.0-litre TSI generates 85 kW (115 PS). Its maximum torque is 175 Nm; power is transferred to the front wheels via a manual six-speed gearbox as standard. A six-speed automatic transmission is optional. The Stop/Start system is another standard feature, and contributes to low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Range-topping engine from the EVO generation with active cylinder technology
The new Skoda Slavia’s top-end engine is a 1.5-litre TSI with a power output of 110 kW (150 PS) and maximum torque of 250 Nm. This unit comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, and can optionally be paired with a seven-speed DSG, which features gear ratios that offer both sportiness and comfort. Innovative technical measures effectively reduce this four‑cylinder, EVO-generation engine’s fuel consumption. The turbocharger features variable vane geometry, for example, which produces more torque at a wider range of engine speeds. Furthermore, the cylinder liners are plasma-coated with a thin layer that measures just 150 μm (0.15 mm). This replaces cast-iron liners in the cylinder crankcase, which reduces internal friction, lowering fuel consumption and emissions. Through better distribution and dissipation of heat in the combustion chamber, it also lowers the thermal load on the engine. The 1.5 TSI is equipped with active cylinder technology (ACT). When engine load is low, this system automatically – and virtually without the driver noticing – shuts down two cylinders, further reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, stated: “The successful start of the INDIA 2.0 project with the KUSHAQ truly highlights what can be achieved with global collaboration here in India. In addition to the increasingly sought-after SUVs, the premium saloon segment offers tremendous potential, and it’s a territory that we have made our own. The sophisticated SLAVIA stands for prestige and style. It also represents a new growth area for ŠKODA AUTO. With its sophistication, capable engines and numerous Simply Clever features, the SLAVIA will appeal to discerning customers in India, and it will also be appreciated in markets around the world. We are confident that the ŠKODA SLAVIA will continue the benchmarks set by the OCTAVIA and SUPERB, and will help us to further strengthen our dominance in the segment.”

Refreshed Audi A8 Revealed

As the successor to the Audi V8, the A8 has been the brand’s leading edge in the luxury saloon segment of Audi’s portfolio since 1994. The Audi A8 is a symbol of and a trailblazer for the status and prestige of the brand. The fourth generation of the luxury saloon, which Audi introduced in 2017, raised it to a new level concerning power, look, and equipment. As an initial series model, the A8 revealed the future design language upon its launch and consequently it is essentially the progressive face of the brand to the present day. The sharpened design coupled with established technologies and outstanding comfort in the back seats defines Audi’s premium conception in this segment. The saloon thereby represents the symbiosis of masterful comfort and sporty handling and it, therefore, covers the full breadth of driving experience. With precision in all details and many intelligent functions, the new A8 is a high-value technology pioneer.

The Audi A8 is a saloon that represents status and exudes authority – now that it has been reworked, its exterior is even more representative, confident, and athletic. The base of the Singleframe grille is now wider and chrome angles that increase in size from bottom to top adorn its grid. The side air intakes are more upright and just as freshly styled as the headlights, whose lower edge on the outside creates a distinctive contour. To summarize, the newly designed and precisely orchestrated design elements in the front area significantly increase the A8’s presence and authority and sharpen the profile of the brand’s top model.

From a side view, the luxury saloon’s progressive character is particularly eye-catching. The roof dome runs flat. Stretched lines in the body of the car emphasize its length, wide wheel arches hint at the standard quattro drive system. In all model variants, the rocker panel area has a concave shape and ends in a blade pointing toward the road. The rear is dominated by wide chrome clasps, a customizable taillight signature with Digital OLEDs, and a continuous, segmented light strip. The diffusor insert in the bumper is delicately accentuated and redesigned with horizontal bars. The Audi S8 presents four flow-optimized pipes under a circumferential contour – typical of the Audi S model. They are one of its characteristic sporty design details.

Beyond the basic exterior, Audi is offering its customers the chrome exterior package and the new S line exterior package. The latter gives the front a dynamic touch and differentiates even more from the basic model: a distinctive blade in the area of the side air intakes augments the frontal view – very similar to the S8. The look is even more defined with the additional black appearance package. The colour swatch for the A8 includes eleven colours, among them the new metallic district green, firmament blue, Manhattan grey, and ultra blue. Also new in the Audi A8 are five matte colours – Daytona grey, florette silver, district green, terra grey and glacier white. In the Audi exclusive program, the car is painted in the customer’s chosen colour.

The product enhancements only minimally change the dimensions of the Audi flagship in the luxury saloon segment. The A8 has a wheelbase of 3.00 meters (9.8 ft.), length of 5.19 meters (17 ft.), width of 1.95 meters (6.4 ft.), and height of 1.47 meters (4.8 ft.). The S8 is about one centimetre longer. The body of the A8 follows the same principle as the Audi Space Frame (ASF): it is made up of 58 percent aluminium parts. The passenger compartment consists of hot-formed steel components supplemented with an ultra-high-strength, extremely torsionally rigid rear panel made of a carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer. Magnesium strut-tower bars complete the lightweight construction concept. The body’s commanding rigidity lays the foundation for precise handling, excellent comfort, and acoustic tranquillity onboard.

Comparable with video projectors, the Digital Matrix LED headlights use DMD (digital micromirror device) technology. Each headlamp contains approximately 1.3 million micromirrors which dispersed the light into tiny pixels, which means that it can be adjusted with the greatest precision. One new function that this enables is lane and orientation lights for highways. Here, the headlights emit a carpet of light, which illuminates the driver’s lane particularly brightly. Above all, the orientation lights particularly help drivers intuitively stay in their lane at road construction sites. The Digital Matrix LED headlights can generate dynamic coming home/leaving home functions upon unlocking and leaving the car. They shine like projections on the ground or the wall.

The enhanced A8 comes with Digital OLED rear lights (OLED = organic light-emitting diode) as a standard feature. When ordering the car, there are two rear light signatures to choose from – three with the S8. When the “dynamic” Audi drive select mode is chosen, the lights change to a further signature that is only available in that mode.

In conjunction with the assistance systems, the Digital OLED rear lights have a proximity indication feature: if another vehicle comes within two meters (6.6 ft.) of a stationary A8 from behind, all the OLED segments are activated. Additional functions include dynamic turn signals as well as coming home and leaving home sequences.

The interior of the A8 is comparable with a spacious, widely tailored lounge – it offers an open, feel-good space. Its architecture is strictly horizontally oriented to emphasize its width. The formal language is still always restrained. In the dark, the ambient light package plus (standard with the S8) elegantly stages the interior and there are reading lights in the rear that use Matrix LED technology.

The range of seats and seat equipment in the enhanced A8 is varied, very comfortable, and radiates the highest degree of authority – especially for the back seats, where many options are available. The relaxation seat in the A8 L is the apex of the program. It offers numerous adjustment options and a footrest on the back of the passenger seat. Passengers can use it to have the bottoms of their feet warmed and massaged to various degrees. The relaxation seat package includes a back massage with 18 pneumatic cushions, electrically adjustable comfort headrests, an optional continuous centre console – also available with an optional fold-out table – four-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning, and the new screens in the rear.

The high-quality workmanship underscores the A8 interior’s workshop character. That goes for the precise perforations in the seat covers, the electrically opening and closing decorative trim, the air vent doors, or the velvety leather in the comfort headrests. The seats are upholstered with Valcona leather as a standard feature. Alternatively, Valcona leather is also available as an option with the possibility of choosing the new colour cognac brown. New to the program is the sustainable microfiber material Dinamica for the door panels, which can also be used for the pillar trim or the roof lining.

The MMI touch response operating concept in the Audi A8 relies on two displays (10.1-inch and 8.6-inch) and natural voice operation. The dialogue starts by calling out “Hey Audi!” The completely digital Audi virtual cockpit, with the standard head-up display, completes the display and operating concept and emphasizes the orientation to the driver. Important information is displayed directly in the driver’s line of sight.

MMI Navigation plus is standard in the enhanced Audi A8. It is supported by the third generation modular infotainment toolkit (MIB 3). The likewise standard online and Car-2-X services from Audi connect augment the navigation system. They are divided into two packages: Audi connect Navigation & Infotainment and Audi connect Safety & Service with Audi connect Remote & Control.

Attractive options are also available for the infotainment hardware. The new screens in the back are tailored to the expectations of today’s rear-seat passengers. That means two 10.1-inch displays with full HD resolution attached to the backs of the front seats. They display content from passengers’ devices and can receive numerous audio and video streams via casting, including from well-known streaming platforms, TV media libraries, or cellular networks.

The rear seat remote, which is now firmly mounted to the centre armrest, allows many comfort and infotainment functions to be controlled from the back seat. The control unit, with its OLED touch display, is about as big as a smartphone.

There are about 40 driver assistance systems available in the enhanced Audi A8. Some of them – including the Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense front safety systems – are standard equipment for the series. Options are clustered into the “Park,” “City,” and “Tour” packages. The assistance package plus consolidates the packages.

The highlight of the “Park” package is the remote park assist plus: it can automatically manoeuvre the large saloon into and out of a parallel or bay parking space. The driver does not even need to be in the car for it to do that.

The “City” assist package includes intersection assist, cross-traffic assist, side assist, exit warning, and the Audi pre sense 360° safety system, which induces a side crash enhancement in combination with the active suspension.

The “Tour” assist package, which is standard in the UK, is particularly comprehensive. Its central system is adaptive cruise assist, which adjusts longitudinal and lateral guidance throughout the vehicle’s speed range. Behind the assistance systems in the Audi A8 is the central driver assistance controller (zFAS), which continuously calculates a model of the environment.

The enhanced Audi A8 is available with four engine options. The 3.0 TDI and the 3.0 TFSI are V6 units, while the 4.0 TFSI in the S8 is a V8 with cylinder on-demand technology. The TFSI e plug-in hybrid model combines the 3.0 TFSI with an electric motor.

The 3.0 TDI is in the Audi A8 50 TDI quattro and the A8 L 50 TDI quattro. It brings 210 kW (286 PS) of power and 600 Nm of torque. The diesel engine accelerates both the A8 and A8 L from zero to 100 kmph (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and on to the electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), which is uniform across all A8 models.

The 3.0 TFSI drives the Audi A8 55 TFSI quattro with 250 kW (340 PS. From 1,370 to 4,500 rpm, it delivers 500 Nm of torque. From a standing start, it reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.

The Audi S8 – inspirational performance in the luxury class
The Audi S8 TSFI quattro is the sporty top model in the series. The biturbo V8 generates 420 kW (571 PS) of power and 800 Nm of torque from 2,050 to 4,500 rpm. It does a standard sprint in 3.8 seconds. The COD system also increases efficiency in the S8. Sound flaps in the exhaust system sharpen the sound when desired. Additionally, the strongest model in the A8 family comes off the assembly line with particularly extensive standard equipment. Among other things, it comprises a unique combination of innovative suspension components, such as the predictive active suspension, sport differential, and dynamic all-wheel steering. With distinctive design elements in the interior and the exterior, the sporty character is purposefully staged.

All the previously mentioned motorizations come with mild hybrid technology (MHEV) as a standard feature, which uses the A8’s 48-volt main electrical system.

The Audi A8 60 TFSI e quattro and the A8 L 60 TFSI e quattro are the plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) in the series. The 3.0 TFSI is supported by a compact electric motor. The lithium-ion battery in the rear can now store a net 14.4 kWh (gross: 17.9 kWh) of energy – significantly more than before. With 340 kW (462 PS) of system power and 700 Nm of system torque, the Audi A8 60 TFSI e quattro goes from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds (A8 and A8 L).

Plug-in hybrid model drivers can choose between four modes. “EV” stands for fully electric driving, “Hybrid” for an efficient combination of both drive system types, and “Hold” for conserving the available electric energy, while the combustion engine charges the battery in “Charge” mode. The maximum charging capacity – with alternating current – is 7.4 kW. Customers can use the compact e-tron charging system for that in their garage at home or the mode 3 cable when they are on the road. In Europe, the Audi e-tron Charging Service grants access to approximately 250,000 charging points.

All engines in the Audi A8 are connected to a fast and gently toggling eight-step tiptronic. Thanks to an electric oil pump, the automatic transmission can change gears even when the combustion engine is not running. The constant all-wheel drive quattro with the self-locking centre differential is standard, optionally supplemented with the sport differential (standard in the S8, not available for plug-in hybrid models). It actively distributes torque between the rear wheels during fast cornering and thereby makes the handling even sportier and more stable.

The standard suspension system in the enhanced Audi A8 impresses with its balanced character. It combines sporty driving fun with confident comfort, due in part to the distinct driving profiles that the Audi drive select handling system has on hand. The adaptive air suspension with controlled damping is standard. Progressive steering is another standard feature. Dynamic all-wheel steering is also available as an option. It is standard equipment in the Audi S8.

The highlight of the enhanced S8 is the predictive active suspension. It can load or unload each wheel with additional power individually via an electric motor and thereby actively regulate the position of the chassis in any driving situation. Predictive active suspension gives the driving experience in the enhanced Audi S8 a fascinating range. When dynamic mode is on in the Audi drive select system, the large saloon shows its sporty side. It firmly turns into corners, the roll angles are small, and the body hardly dips when braking. In comfort+ mode, by contrast, it smoothly breezes over unevenness. Here, the steering works in conjunction with the front camera, allowing it to recognize unevenness within the system limitations and predictively regulate the actuators.

In comfort+ mode, the predictive active suspension has a special feature: its integrated curve tilting function reduces the lateral acceleration that acts on the occupants. Upon entering a curve, it elevates the side of the body on the outside of the curve and lowers the other side, thereby tilting it into the curve up to three degrees. At speeds between 80 and 130 kmph (59.7 to 80.8 mph) and lateral acceleration of up to 0.4g, cornering is scarcely noticeable.

While driving straight in comfort+, the predictive active suspension compensates for pitching movements in the chassis. To help with getting in and out of the car comfortably, the body raises and lowers itself by up to 50 mm (2 in.).

The wheel range for the enhanced Audi A8, which goes from 18 to 21 inches, including new designs.
